This 10-week practical introduction to the Christian faith is open to everyone. Each weekly session begins at 6:00 pm with a light supper followed by large-group presentation and small-group discussion. It’s a relaxed atmosphere where you can ask any question and express your opinions. Childcare is available. To register or ask questions call Pastor Bode at 682-1883. The next session will be in the fall of 2009.
The Book Group
Our Library Committee sponsors a Book Group which meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm.
PEP
PEP (People Enjoying People) meets on the first and third Tuesdays of every month from 9:00 am to 11:30 am. Our time together begins with a brief Bible study with Pastor Klemz followed by a variety of activities which may include some stretching exercises, joke telling, cards and/or games. Come whenever you can, stay as long as you want. There is no regular commitment. The more the merrier.
Women's Circles
Dorcas Circle meets in the sewing
room on the second Tuesday of each month at 3:00 pm. Mary Circle meets the second Wednesday of the month at
1:30 pm. Both groups share a bible study time and refreshments. All women are
welcome to attend. There is also a Sewing Circle that meets every Tuesday afternoon beginning at noon to make quilts either to sell for fundraising or to give to mission projects.
Women in Mission
Women in Mission
provides opportunities for women to gather together for mission work, spiritual
growth and fellowship. Membership is open to all women of St. John s. The Board meets the first Thursday
of the month at 5:30 pm followed at 6:15 pm by a Women’s Bible Study. Additional committees meet as needed. Each year on the second Saturday of November
from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm, they host the Country Fair to raise money for mission
projects. The church is filled with
crafts, quilts, baked goods, candy, produce, and attic treasures. In addition, brunch and lunch is served.
Men's Study
All men are invited to gather for breakfast and Bible study at the Buffalo Perkins each Thursday morning at 6:30 am. The study is usually lead by Pastor Bode and the fellowship is due to the great group of guys that are always there.
Parents' Group
This is an informal discussion group that meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm. Parents support each other and develop their skills for raising children.
Introduction for New Members
Three times a year Pastor Disney leads a
class that is a basic introduction to membership in St. John’s Lutheran Church. Meeting for four
consecutive Sundays at 9:10, participants are invited to explore Jesus’ vision
of what church is all about. We talk about the benefits of church membership as
well as what is expected of those who join. Everyone is welcome as we consider
the various opportunities the church presents, and together ask questions such
as “what is my purpose in life?” and “what blessings does God have for us
together?”
Sunday Morning Education Hour
Each Sunday morning at 9:10am during the school year, St. John's offers a variety of adult classes. Topics include studies on the books of the Bible, the new member introduction mentioned above, book & movie studies, and many others.
Every Thursday during the school year from 9:15 to 11:15, people of all ages from 27 different churches and 12 communities around Buffalo gather at St. John's for a scripture based study built on shared Christian beliefs while accepting each other's differences. Previous Bible knowledge varies from very little to advanced. While you study, trained teachers care for and teach your children from 0-grade 3 with crafts, snacks, games, and skits all centering on the day's theme. For the 2008-09 school year, CBS will be studying the Book of Revelations. Each of the 30 lessons in the series is comprised of lecture, small group discussion and home study. All are welcome.
St. John's is glad to be able to host meetings of Al-Anon and Narcotics Anonymous. Al-Anon meets here Thursdays at 10:00 am. For more information, go to www.minnesotasouth-al-anon.org. NA meets on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm. For more information go to www.naminnesota.org.
