FROM THE DESK OF PASTOR CHRIS RYAN:

Most people in the world today are incapable of being in silence. From the moment people wake up until the moment they go to sleep they are surrounded by noise. Some people can’t even sleep without a sound machine! We are addicted to noise as a society. The problem with this particular addiction is that we miss out on some incredible benefits of silence that are mentioned in Scripture.

Being in silence helps you to better hear God. The louder the noise of the world is around you the more difficult it can be to listen to God. It is in our stillness and silence that we get to know Him all the better (Psalm 46:10). Sometimes it is in a whisper that God speaks to us (1 Kings 19:11-13).

Being in silence also helps you to be like Jesus, something that Scripture certainly tells us we are to do (1 Corinthians 11:1). Jesus would often get away from the noise of the world to just spend time in silence with God (Luke 5:16).

As you go about your business this month, make sure to take some time each day to get away from the noise of this world and be in silence with God. May you be like Jesus and hear the voice of God all the better.
