Presentation of the Gospel of Mark

On Palm Sunday, March 24th at 6:30pm, Tom Stolz, long-time actor at Old Log Theater, will present the Gospel of Mark in its entirety.  The acclaimed production, which takes about 90 minutes with a short intermission, has been presented since 1984.  The reciting of the book will draw you into the Gospel narrative in a way that reading a few verses at a time never could.  What an amazing way to begin Holy Week!

Maundy Thursday | 6pm
Maundy Thursday | 6pm

Maundy Thursday commemorates the night when Jesus washed His disciples feet, giving them the mandate to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 13:34).  He also celebrated the Passover meal with His disciples, instituting the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.  After supper He went to the Garden of Gethsemane where he anguished in prayer before His betrayal.

Join us for this Communion service at 6pm Thursday evening as part of our journey through Holy Week towards the Cross and the Resurrection.

Good Friday | 12 & 6pm
Good Friday | 12 & 6pm

Good Friday marks the day when Jesus carried his cross up the hill to Golgotha and was hung upon it, carrying and paying for the sins of the entire world as the Lamb of God.

“For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Join us at 12 noon for a meditative service focusing on the passion of Christ.  (There is not a message at this service, just a reading through the passion account with time for reflection and hymns.)

At 6pm there will be a Tenebrae Service where the elders will share reflections on the seven last words of Christ as we walk through His passion.

What to Expect Easter Weekend

We look forward to having you worship at St. John’s this Holy Week & Easter!

All Holy Week & Easter Services will be in the main sanctuary upstairs.  Park in the north lot across 2nd St NE, if possible.  More parking is available along the street on 3rd Ave NE and in the back lot on the east side of the building.

When making your Sunday plan, it might be helpful to know the 9am service tends to be the fullest service. Come a little early to get settled and plan to scoot together to help accommodate as many people as possible. There will also likely be chairs added to the east narthex facing the TV (near door #2) as well as outside the front sanctuary doors by the Coffee Commons.

The Worship Choir and Gospel Ringers hand bell choir will enhance worship at both the 9 & 11 am services. The Sat 5pm services uses contemporary worship music.  All 3 services on Sunday will use traditional hymns.

If you’re bringing children, stop by the “Little Lutherans Station” to grab a bag, coloring sheets, and some toys or fidgets to keep hands busy while ears are listening. Those items can be returned there at the end of the service.

If you or a child have sensory challenges, we have two sensory bags available with some tools to help accommodate worship for you. You can find those behind the Welcome Center just before you enter the sanctuary.

If you need help finding a seat or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask an usher, elder, or staff member. We are here to help!

God’s blessings on your worship this Easter! We can’t wait to meet you and worship together.
